At Good Karma Sanctuary in Egypt, compassion meets action to help those in need. By giving free expert vetcare, educate owners on better care and rescue those (if possible) who can not recover enough to return to work, primarily focusing on the plight of horses in Egypt.
We believe in the power of collective empathy, and our mission is clear: to be a haven for those who have suffered and a force for positive change.
In our 600 m2 location we are still making improvements on a regular basis, but for the moment it consists of a large paddock, a small paddock, 10 boxes of which 5 are doubles ( 2 – 3 horses per box if needed), 2 outdoor treatment areas, an indoor examination room and a medicine room/office.
The storage room we hope to turn into a full surgery room in the future.
We are limited in space and currently looking for a secondary location for retirement horses that we have rescued.
We can house up to 30 patients (if some are donkeys) and treat up to 50 outpatients a day.
Our alfalfa hay we order from a bit further away as we want good quality, our muesli gets delivered from a company from Cairo.
And daily fresh greens and carrots we buy locally as well as the straw bedding.
The medicines that are available in Egypt we try to buy in bulk to get better prices, but it is still difficult due to lack of funds.
Anything not available here in Egypt we buy in Spain or in UK, as we have regular visitors or fly ourselves abroad to ensure we can purchase quality products and medicines.
